Fishing in Cabo San Lucas for

Sailfish

Speed Demons

Sailfish are the fastest fish in the entire ocean. These beauties have been clocked leaping out of the water at more than 68 miles per hour.

You’ll know the difference between a sailfish and a marlin by its enormous dorsal fin (hence ‘sail’ fish) that is much larger than its own body and goes almost entirely from head to tail.

Weight: Sailfish can grow up to 220lbs. and 9 feet long for the giants. Expect closer to 100-150lbs on most outings.

Fishing in Cabo San Lucas for

Dorado

a.k.a Mahi Mahi

These beautifully colored fish are surface dwellers and can be identified as soon as they get near the bait. Once they’re on the hook you’ll know it’s a mahi mahi by the screaming reel and exciting, aggressive fight it puts up. After all, mahi mahi is Hawaiian for, “strong”.

Weight: Typical catches are around 15-29lbs and they hunt in schools. Once you hook one, there’s a good chance you’ll be seeing more.

Mahi mahi meat is some of the best you’ll get and can be used in fish tacos, ceviche, and pretty much any recipe you can find. You could live off of this stuff!

Fishing in Cabo San Lucas for

Marlin

Prize Fighter

The marlin is the prize fish. Every angler’s dream. They are a strong fight and an elusive species. They hunt during daytime within 100 feet of the surface.

In the waters near Cabo, both marlin and sailfish can be similar in size. A quick way to spot the difference between a sailfish and marlin from afar while fighting is the smaller, fixed dorsal fin compared to the enormous fin a sailfish.

Weight: Around 100-120lbs.
